The PERCEPTION of objects as moving when the eyes are moved. Objects closer than the point the eyes are fixed on seem to move in the opposite direction from the eye movements; objects beyond the fixation point seem to move in the same direction as the eye movements. Near objects also appear to move more rapidly than distant objects. Parallax provides important cues in DEPTH PERCEPTION.
